The actress started her film career with her older sister Nutan in the movie Hamari Beti (1950) as Baby Tanuja.. One of her early films, Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi, was appreciated for her acting that was released in 1966. The movie was directed by Shaheed Latif.Tanuja has also won the Best Supporting Actress Filmfare Award for Paisa Ya Pyar. After the success of Haathi Mere Saathi(1971), Tanuja acted in Mere jeevan Saathi, Do Chor and Ek Baar Muskara Do (1972). The talented actress has recently appeared in such films as Saathiya (2002), Rules (2003), and Khakee (2004) as a supporting actress.

The actress hails from Hanuman Bhagda, Valsad and was born in Surat, Gujarat. She studied in St Joseph Convent, Panchgani and completed her schooling till 9th grade in Surat. Praachi went to Pune to complete her higher studies.
